This is an original hand drawn Madhubani art work from Bihar, North-East India.

It is painted on hand made paper with pen and ink in bold red and black. The image size is 130mm x 370mm. Total size with frame – 340mm x 590mm.

This incredibly striking painting is presented in a bespoke dark wooden frame. The distressed finish adds an aged feel which compliments the art work perfectly.

Fish represent good luck, fertility and community in Mithila folk lore. As the fish in this painting are depicted as a kissing couple the message behind this art work can be interpreted as a good luck for fertility and would have been part of the wall decorations in celebration of a wedding.

This striking piece of art is typical of the Madhubani style with its strong outlines and intricate use of hatch and cross hatching lines.  A wonderful and meaningful original painting.
