This is an original hand drawn Madhubani art work from Bihar, North-East India.

It is painted on hand made paper in a beautiful monochrome design. The image size is 189mm x 563mm. Total size with frame – 365mm x 750mm.

This incredibly striking painting is presented in a bespoke dark wooden frame. The textured finish adds an aged feel which compliments the art work perfectly.

This fantastic depiction of a village lady carrying a water jug is typical of the artform.  The character being drawn in profile and her disproportionately large eye are key features of Mithila art that have been likened to modernist surrealism. She is seen walking under the Tree of Life which is the giver of shelter, shade, food and peace. Hidden amongst the treetop branches are several peacocks which represent love in Mithial folklore.

A wonderful and meaningful original painting.

Please note there is a small smudging of the ink in the lower part of the painting which has been caused by water. We feel this does not detract from the overall quality of the image. This has been reflected in the price. We welcome private viewings so please contact us if you wish to take a closer look.
