The Circle of Love, also known as a Love Mandala is a popular subject in Mithila folk art and would have traditionally been painted to celebrate marriage. The figures in the centre represent the wedding couple surrounded by their friends and family. The circle is enveloped by the tree of life which represents safety, food and shelter for the newly weds. The creatures depicted in the branches of the trees are owls who’s symbolic meaning is love.

This striking piece of art is typical of the Madhubani style with its strong outlines and bordered design. A wonderful and meaningful original painting.
